Levellers’ Day 2015 took place in Burford on Saturday 16 May 10.30 to 3.30

11.15   Guest speakers laid flowers in the churchyard on the site of the execution of the three Levellers

11.25   The parade set off from the Church to the Recreation Ground

12.00   Arrive at the Recreation Ground

13.15   The Debate

The theme of the debate was Education – the key to Democracy

Speakers for the debate (to be followed by questions and discussion from the floor) were:

  • Melissa Benn is a journalist and writer
  • Kevin Courtney is the Assistant General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers
  • Danny Dorling is a British social geographer and is the Halford Mackinder Professor of Geography of the School of Geography and the Environment of the University of Oxford. He is also a Visiting Professor in the Department of Sociology of Goldsmiths University of London, a Visiting Professor in the School of Social and Community Medicine of the University of Bristol, a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Public Policy Research, and a Member of the National Advisory Panel for the Centre for Labour and Social Studies (CLASS)
  • Paul Mackney chaired the debate

15.00   The day ended with the singing of The Internationale
